Character Creation
A step-by-step guide to character creation
Creating a character is always daunting, and here on CW we have some interesting mechanics in place, and it can seem a little complicated and thus even more daunting. This guide is to help you understand how it all fits together, and what decisions you need to make as you create your character.
Step One: Read the Rules. Reading and understanding the rules will give you a basic understanding of what this site is about and how we do things. It will also help you decide what character(s) you will likely be playing. The Introductory and Site Plot posts are relatively important as well, as it may give you ideas for how to spin your backstories.
Step two: Build your character. The Concept of the character is the most important part, which is why it takes up the bulk of the Roleplay Application. We like two-three paragraphs for the personality and history sections. If we don't have a good feel of your character, we may ask you to clarify things. Understanding the character is, after all, the most important reason for the application.
Step Three: Stats. This site features an optional feature for giving characters stats to influence roleplay. The system doesn't go as far as imposing equations for determining hits/misses or for determining damage. All of that is up to the story you are telling. That said, we do expect this to be implemented fairly by all members. There are four static scores, Attack (ATK), Defense (DEF), Magic (MAG), and Speed (SPD).
When creating your character, you have 10 points to distribute between these stats as you see fit. The HP value is calculated with a base value of 100 for each character, plus your defense value. At each level you gain, you may add your defense value to your HP. So, at any given time your HP value will be 100 + (DEF x Level). Again, when and how these variables are put into effect is up to the players in a given thread, but this way if you decide to use stats, there is already a system in place for doing so. We do require that you at least determine starting stats at character creation. Even if you don't plan to use them very often, others you play with might want to reference them when you deal damage to them.
Step Four: Your starting Weapon. Starting weapons can be a single weapon, or dual weapons. Dual weapons advance as a single weapon, receiving the same stat and enhancements. Dual weapons do not allow extra attacks in a post. At character creation, you start with a basic weapon. Each weapon has an Attack (ATK) and a Magic (MAG) score that determines what kinds of attacks they improve on. When you create your weapon, you have 5 points to distribute between ATK and MAG. More about advancing weapons can be found in the Synthesis Shop
Step Five: Abilities. Abilities are covered in the Ability Melding board. But as a brief overview, Abilities are purchased, or upgraded, with AP, which you will gain naturally as you gain levels. Starting out, you will begin with 5 abilities from one of the following Types: Synergy, Sabatour, or Basic. Basic Abilities deal minor damage, such as Fire, Blizzard, and Thunder, or Cure minor damage, such as Cure. Synergy abilities provide bonuses to you or your allies for 2 posts. Sabatour abilities hinder enemies, and their effects last for 2 posts. If you have any questions on Ability Melding, head over there and check it out. You might some useful insight for things to purchase in the future.
